Empowering you to self-regulate using your body and breath
Establish safety, build resilience and restore balance within your autonomic nervous system, with hands-on bodywork and breathing therapy combined with self-directed and tailored tools and practices to develop lifelong self-regulation skills.
A healthy autonomic nervous system is the foundation for sustainable wellbeing and a fulfilling life. Getting back in the driving seat of your nervous system includes befriending your body and breath, learning how your autonomic nervous system functions and knowing how to work with and through your body and breath to reduce the impacts of trauma, address chronic stress, and support your wellbeing.
Who is this for?
If you’re finding yourself on the sidelines of your own life, barely surviving, stressed out, hypervigilant and experiencing frequent dysregulation this type of therapy can support you to be safely present in your body and breath and to fully participate in your own life again.
When we have experienced trauma, we can get stuck in a cycle of responding in the present to the threats of the past, even if we are now safe. If you lack trust and a sense of safety in your body, breath and environment, this enhances your awareness of and response to potential threats.
Over time, your window of tolerance – the zone in which you are able to safely experience discomfort without becoming dysregulated – shrinks to almost nothing. This means that you may find little things extremely triggering, resulting in bodily reactions that don’t feel proportionate and that may cause you a lot of distress.
Befriending your nervous system can help you to understand what’s going on and to empower you to provide your brain with ‘signs of safety’ through your body and breath. This will support you to reduce awareness of threat and hypervigilance, build resilience, and expand your window of tolerance – helping you to feel safe when you ARE safe.
You can expect:
Nervous System Regulation Therapy is a combination of advanced integrated myofascial therapy, embodiment training, holistic massage, breathing therapy, interoceptive training and somatic tracking.
Your safety is our top priority, and we will start by assessing where you are in terms of embodiment, along with establishing signs of safety in the body, breath and nervous system. This lays the groundwork to enable mindful exploration of both the physical and emotional body in a way that feels fully supported.
Sessions include hands-on bodywork alongside feeling into the inner landscape of your body and describing what you are experiencing in your body and breath. This enables us to respond accordingly to regulate your nervous system in each moment. Inner enquiry also helps you to develop your interoceptive skills – your internal awareness of your body and its needs – an essential component of effective nervous system regulation.
In this way you will be guided to notice, safely experience and interpret the messages that your body and breath send to you about your own stress, so that you can get better at responding with the self-care you need to maintain balance.
I work with you to establish your boundaries and needs, and everything is done at your pace so that you can fully process and integrate all of your experiences. This ensures you leave each session feeling empowered and whole.
You will also build up a toolkit of science-backed practices to support you in your daily life. These resources are tailored to your needs and will help you to build long-term sustainable resilience and wellbeing.
