pelvic health therapy

Transforming your pelvic health and wellbeing

The pelvic floor is a key component of not just pelvic health but also healthy breathing, autonomic nervous system regulation, and physical health and wellbeing (including posture).

Gripping and tightness in the pelvic floor can lead to weakness and a number of different issues. Pelvic therapy – whether that’s external or internal pelvic floor work, can help to reduce restrictions and increase pelvic floor strength.

A healthy pelvic floor will improve your breathing, your digestion, your ability to move freely, to engage in physical intimacy, and your overall physical comfort and confidence.

The benefits of pelvic health therapy also extend beyond addressing physical issues. The pelvic floor plays a fundamental role in our physical, emotional and spiritual health. Finding freedom in the pelvis is a huge part of being able to reclaim our power and support our sacred soul journey. And pelvic floor therapy can act as deep somatic work that gives us an opportunity to reconnect to these deepest parts of ourselves – to root with strength and softness into the rich ground of our own body and breath.

Who is this for?

Pelvic floor issues can happen to everyone, no matter your gender or life experiences.

Restriction in the pelvic floor can arise for a number of reasons, from experiencing stress and trauma, to physical causes such as childbirth or injury.

A pelvic floor that is tense due to habitual patterns of bracing can contribute to issues including:

  • Digestive problems
  • UTI symptoms (with no infection present)
  • Urinary leakage and/or difficulty peeing
  • Prolapse
  • Chest breathing and diaphragm restriction
  • Pelvic/deep hip/coccyx pain
  • Painful periods or sex
  • Lack of sensation or orgasm
  • Constipation and haemorrhoids

If you have one or a number of these symptoms, pelvic floor therapy could help.

You can expect:

Pelvic health therapy involves physical assessment and hands-on treatment of your pelvic floor using gentle myofascial techniques. Treatment may be external, internal or a mixture, and is delivered alongside rehab exercises and home-care programmes.

External and internal pelvic floor therapy is specialist and sensitive work. Checking in with you and gaining consent at every stage is top priority, along with going at your pace and respecting your choice at each moment. And it doesn’t have to include internal pelvic floor work. External pelvic therapy can be hugely beneficial and is sometimes all that is needed. We are always guided by what feels safe and appropriate for you.

Please note. I am not qualified to diagnose pelvic health conditions, and pelvic health therapy is not a substitute for an assessment and diagnosis from a medical professional or physiotherapist.
